The Sorcerer's Apprentice
I live in the home of a sorcerer. Strong magic I do study. To help pay for my magic school, I mop the floors when muddy.
" I'm leaving now to buy a broom, ' the sorcerer did say. " I'm off to find a better one from a shop in a town far away. " " Until you finish school, " said he, " no magic should you cast. Do not cause trouble while I'm gone! " And out the door he dashed.
I know the magic words to say. This broom can do my chore. It will bring water from the well so I can mop the floor. I whispered words of magic and began to cast a spell. At least I think those are the words. I don't remember well . . .
I said, “ Oh broom! Step up and fetch me water-do it quick! I should not have to do my chores when they can be done by a stick. " The broom stood tall, grew arms and legs, and picked up a wooden pail. With a silent bow and a stiff salute, it marched off down the trail.
The broom returned with water and walked slowly through the gate. This broom is taking way too long! I do not want to wait.
