The Old Movie Theater

It was early morning in Metro City. A pickup truck drove onto a construction site. Three workers got out of the truck. They were building a new skyscraper. “ We have a lot of work to do today, " said one man. Suddenly the workers heard something. Whirr!

“ What's that sound?" asked a woman. Whirr! “ Look! " cried the other man. “ The new skyscraper is shrinking! ” Roxy and her friends were walking to school. They walked past Rocky Mountain Bakery. “ Mmm, ” said Mara. “ The bakery smells good! ”

“ We should buy cookies after school, ” said Terrell. “ Good idea, " said Jack. “ Look, " said Mara. “ It’s the Metro City Movie Theater. " Mara pointed to a very old building. Boards covered its windows.

Cracks ran along the walls. Weeds grew in front of it. “ It's sad that the old theater went out of business, " said Jack. “ I saw lots of movies there. " “ I did too, " said Terrell. “ But now there's a fancy new theater downtown. It has 12 screens! It even has movies in 3-D! ” “ I saw lots of movies in the old theater too, " said Mara.

“ But now my parents hope it gets knocked down. " “ Why?" asked Jack. “ People want to plant a community garden on the lot, ” said Mara. “ They want to grow fruits and vegetables there. " “ That would be cool, " said Roxy. “ A garden would look much nicer than that old building. "
