Dragon Master RUNE JOHNSON HOME Rune lives on the largest of the Picland Islands, in a crystal castle overlooking the ocean. Pony Master Before he became a Dragon Master, Rune's favorite job on the farm was taking care of Picland ponies. These are the smallest horses in the world. STRENGTHS Rune is very good at solving puzzles. He's a great teacher, too. Rune is Deaf and communicates using his hands, not his voice. When he met Drake and Darma, he taught them several words in sign language.

BACKGROUND Rune grew up on a farm with his parents, Breta and John. They are both Deaf, like Rune. Breta loves books, and she taught Rune to read. John loves games, and he makes puzzles out of wood for Rune. DRAGON Lysa the Light Dragon

THE PICLAND ISLANDS This group of islands sits in the Far North Sea. It's a beautiful land, filled with green hills. The people there grow crops, herd sheep, and fish the ocean waters. In the winter, the days are very short. And in summer, there is light for as long as nineteen hours in a day. The islands have no king or queen, but each island is ruled by a lord or lady. Crystal Castle There are other types of dragons with Dragon Masters on the Picland Islands. A wizard named Ingabar travels the islands, spending time with each Dragon Master for a few weeks and then moving on. —Griffith

The Labyrinth The Light Dragon lives in a crystal castle near a magical maze. The maze holds the secret to summoning a Star Dragon. The secret is that the labyrinth protects the Star Flute. The labyrinth appears to have been built by the ancient Picland people. Getting through the labyrinth isn't easy. First, you must pass the test of the Light Dragon. Then, you must figure out how to get through the maze, but it is full of traps and creatures that guard it. Magical creatures and challenging puzzles will try to stop you from reaching your goal. But here's a hint: You can't do it without friends!

Dragon LYSA THE LIGHT DRAGON There has always been a Light Dragon to guard the labyrinth on the Picland Islands. During the islands' long winter days, people travel to the crystal castle to be cheered by Lysa's light. POWERS If Lysa shines the Light of Truth on you, rainbow light will surround you, and you won't be able to tell a lie. She shoots bright white beams of light out of the symbol on her chest. This light was strong enough to push away part of the evil sky-shadow. It's impossible to get through the labyrinth without Lysa's light shining on some of the hidden clues there. A Close Connection Rune cannot hear, and Lysa can. But Rune and Lysa understand each other's thoughts. If Lysa hears a strange or dangerous noise, she can let Rune know using her thoughts. Lysa is the only Light Dragon on the Picland Islands. But I suspect that Light Dragons can be found in other parts of the world. —Griffith
