STRENGTHS Jean is a wonderful inventor! She creates tools that she uses to defend her castle, and things to make life easier and more fun for people. She is the guardian of the Silver Key, with her dragon. Jean's Catapults A catapult is a device that can launch objects into the air and send them flying very far. Jean's catapults have a heavy weight on one end and a basket of small rocks on the other end. When Jean cuts the rope, the weights drop and the rocks launch into the air. BACKGROUND Jean was raised by her mother, Amee, a master sword maker. Amee's workshop is a forge. There, she softens and hammers out metal in a fiery furnace.

JEAN'S WORKSHOP Jean lives alone in the castle with Argent and has a lot of free time. To keep busy, she started making simple toys and useful gadgets using scraps of things she found around the castle. When her mother visits, she crafts strong metal pieces for Jean using the castle forge. Making Plans Jean's inventions all start with an idea she sketches on paper. A Chair with Wheels King Leon asked Jean for help after his daughter, Princess Colette, was thrown from her horse. Colette could no longer walk and wanted a way to get around on her own. Jean invented this wheelchair that moves when the user pushes the wheels. Colette loved it, and Jean now makes a wheelchair for anyone who needs one, Dragon Master Llew uses a wheelchair Jean made.

THE LAND OF GALLIA Gallia is a small land not far from Bracken— just a short trip by boat across the Sea of Albion. It has been ruled by King Leon for almost fifty years. Most of the people of Gallia are farmers. But many live in its largest city, Parisi. That city is known for its great food, poetry, and art. King Leon Officially, he's known as King Leon the Sage but his daughters — Princess Colette, Princess Maria, and Princess Claire — call him King Leon the Silly. Apparently, he likes to tell jokes that make him laugh, but make his daughters groan. They call these "father jokes." The king is beloved by the people of Gallia, probably because of his good nature. The royal wizard of Gallia is my friend Sophie. She is an expert in magical rocks and gems. — Griffith

Lair of the Silver Dragon Jean Arcand does not live in the royal castle of Gallia. She lives in a stone castle on a hill in the countryside, far from the royal city. This castle was built hundreds of years ago as a home for Argent, the Silver Dragon, and is his lair. A messenger delivers food and supplies every two weeks.
