The Year Beast In China, during the Spring Festival there is a special tradition called " guonian, " which means " passing a year. " According to legend, there was a terrifying monster called " nian" that would eat animals and humans, every day. People were very afraid, so they had to hide until the " Nian" went away. Later, it was discovered that the monster was scared of the color red and fireworks. Since then, people have used red things and set off fireworks or firecrackers to scare away the " nian. " This tradition has been passed down, and we still celebrate it during the Spring Festival.
