天安门

The Tiananmen, or the Gate of Heavenly Peace, is a monumental gate in the center of Beijing, widely recognized as a national symbol of China.

First built during the Ming dynasty in 1417 , Tiananmen was the entrance to the lmperial City ，where the Forbidden City was located.

Tiananmen stands to the north of Tiananmen Square, separated by Chang'an Avenue.

Tiananmen Square was once a courtyard in front of the Forbidden City's main gate, originally measuring about 110, 000 square meters.

After the fall of the feudal system, and especially since the foundation of the People's Republic, it has been renovated and expanded many times.

Today, the square covers 440, 000 square meters, making it one of the largest public squares in the world.
