UNIT 10 BODY& HEALTH ankle n. An ankle is the joint between your foot and your leg. She hurt her ankle when she was running. breathe v. To breathe is to move air into and out of your lungs. Yoga is a good way to relax and breathe deeply. cancer n. Cancer is a serious disease caused by cells that are not normal. She is at the hospital getting treatment for cancer. cell n. A cell is a very small living thing that makes up every part of your body. The major types of blood cells are red blood cells and white blood cells. chest n. The chest is the front part of your body between your neck and your stomach. The man has a pain in his chest. flu n. The flu is a common illness that makes you feel tired and weak. The whole family has the flu. funeral n. A funeral is a ceremony held for a dead person. Only family members attended the funeral. gene n. A gene is a part of a cell that controls or influences the appearance or growth of a living thing. A gene causes eye color to be passed down from parent to child. heel n. A heel is the curved back part of your foot. The woman's shoe gave her a sore heel. lung n. A lung is one of the two organs in your body that you breathe with. The doctor is checking an X-ray of the person's lungs.

obesity n. Obesity is a condition in which someone is too fat in an unhealthy way. Eating too much junk food can lead to obesity. pregnant adj. Pregnant means having one or more babies growing within a mother's body. The mother is pregnant with her second child. skull n. A skull is the framework of bones forming the head. Scientists found a human skull during their research. surgery n. Surgery is medical treatment in which a doctor cuts open someone's body. He is in surgery to repair a torn muscle in his leg. tension n. Tension is a feeling of anxiety and stress that makes it impossible to relax. Swimming is a great way to relieve tension. thigh n. The thigh is the part of your leg above the knee. He pulled a muscle in his thigh while he was exercising. throat n. The throat is at the back of your mouth inside your neck. His sore throat makes swallowing very painful. waist n. A waist is the area of the body just above the belly button, going all the way around the body. He is wearing a belt around his waist. wound n. A wound is an injury in which your skin or flesh is damaged. The doctor is putting a bandage on the boy's wound. wrist n. A wrist is the part of your body where your hand joins your arm. She is wearing a new watch on her wrist.
