UNIT 15 LIFE average adj. An average is a standard or level that is considered to be usual. The average age to get married in North America is 30. beautiful adj. When something is beautiful, it is very attractive or pleasant. Teresa is trying on a beautiful red dress. bride n. A bride is a woman who is getting married. The bride is getting ready for her big day. brother n. A brother is a boy or man who has the same parents as you. The brothers enjoy playing with each other. clap v. To clap is to hit your hands together several times to show appreciation or enjoyment. They clapped after the wedding ceremony. couple n. A couple is two people who are in a marriage or romantic relationship. The couple is fighting about not spending enough time together. cousin n. A cousin is a child of your aunt or uncle. My cousins and I are very close. elegant adj. When something or someone is elegant, it is stylish and attractive. My aunt is a very elegant woman. engagement n. An engagement is an agreement to be married. Jeremy is surprising her with an engagement ring. forever adv. When something will happen or continue forever, it will continue for an endless amount of time. Some people want to live forever but it is impossible to do.

girlfriend n. A girlfriend is a woman with whom someone is in a romantic relationship. He is asking his girlfriend to be his wife. gown n. A gown is a long formal dress that a woman wears for a special event. Nancy designs wedding gowns. kiss v. To kiss is to touch the lips or face of another person with your lips as a greeting or to show love. She is kissing her son good night. marry v. To marry is to legally become a husband or wife of someone. Pam married her best friend. merry adj. When something is merry, it is cheerful and lively. I heard their merry laughter. nephew n. A nephew is the son of your brother or sister. The woman is taking her nephews on a trip. party n. A party is a social event where people enjoy themselves. I want to have a party outside for my wedding. sister n. A sister is a girl or woman who has the same parents as you. Luke loves his little sister. stepbrother n. A stepbrother is the son of your stepmother or stepfather. Annie is teaching her stepbrother how to use a smartphone. white adj. When something is white, it has the color of fresh snow or milk. Nick is wearing a clean, white shirt.

My First Traditional Wedding My friend Arjun married his girlfriend, Paven.Their families are from India, so they had a traditional Indian wedding. Indian weddings last an average of three days. Day 1 The first night was the engagement party, at which the families exchanged gifts. There was a big meal followed by a night of dancing.

Day 2 The second night was the mehndi ceremony. Paven and her female family members and friends got their hands painted with henna. Henna is an ink made from a plant. Paven's mother and sister gave her a gift of gold bracelets to wear at the wedding ceremony. Day 3 The wedding ceremony was this morning. Paven was such a beautiful bride. She wore a red Indian wedding gown. It had a lot of beads and embroidery. During the ceremony, her father, brother, nephews, and male cousins walked with her to Arjun. The wedding reception was in the evening. The guests wore elegant Indian outfits. The reception was a lot of fun. There was a lot of delicious Indian food, and we danced all night long. I wish the newlywed couple a life of happiness forever!
