UNIT 02 TRAVEL adventure n. An adventure is an exciting and sometimes dangerous experience. He likes to go on an adventure once a year. arrive v. To arrive is to reach a place. The family was happy to arrive home after their long trip. away adv. Someone is away when they are not at home or near a certain place, person, or thing. They are going away for the weekend. camping n. Camping is the activity of living outdoors and sleeping in a tent. She goes camping every summer. corner n. A corner is the place where two lines or streets meet. The girls meet at the corner of Jane Street and Finch Street. depart v. To depart is to leave a place to go on a trip. The plane departs in three hours. driver n. A driver is someone who drives a vehicle, such as a car or truck. My uncle is a bus driver. helicopter n. A helicopter is a machine or vehicle that flies using long thin blades on top of it that spin very fast. The helicopter flies over the city. highway n. A highway is a main road that connects cities and towns. Driving on the highway is a fast way to get to the next city. motorcycle n. A motorcycle is a machine for driving with two wheels and an engine. He likes to ride his motorcycle on sunny days.

north n. North is the direction on your left when you face the rising sun. My home is north of where I am. parking n. Parking is a place where a vehicle is put into a place where it can be left temporarily. It is hard to find parking on the weekend. passenger n. A passenger is someone who is traveling in a vehicle, such as a car, bus, or train, and who is not driving. There are many passengers on the plane. south n. South is the direction on your right when you face the rising sun. The wind blew from the south. stay v. To stay is to be at the same place for a period of time. The man stays at the hotel for work. tire n. A tire is a rubber ring filled with air that goes around a wheel. He is changing the flat tire. toward prep. When you go toward something, you go in the direction of it. The bus is traveling toward the tower. traffic n. Traffic is the collection of vehicles using a road. The traffic is heavy. vacation n. A vacation is when people go somewhere to relax or travel. We go to the beach for our family vacation. visitor n. A visitor is someone who visits a person or a place. My grandmother likes to have visitors at her house.
