CHAPTER1 Families Work Together Families work together in many ways. Parents want their children to help out at home. When families work together at home, chores can get done quickly. There are many jobs kids can do at home. They can set the table for meals and help with the dishes afterwards. They can help clean up the house. They can take out the trash. Some kids work at jobs outside their homes too. Child actors work in movies and on TV shows. Some of them even become famous! Brothers and sisters help keep their home clean.

It is not easy to become an actor. But there are many other kinds of jobs kids can do to make money. Kids can sell lemonade and baked goods in their neighborhood. Kids can babysit, walk dogs, or mow lawns. These are all ways kids can work to make money. Some kids save the money they make for the future. Others spend the money they make on things they want or need now. Sometimes kids use the money they earn to help pay for things their family can enjoy together. Some kids deliver newspapers.

Parents help their children with their jobs. Together, they might discuss which jobs would fit into their family's schedule. Parents also help their children find and apply for some jobs. Kids may need their parents to drive them to work. When You're Older. . . Some places teens can work: an office a movie theater a store a baseball park In some jobs, kids wear a uniform or badge.

CHAPTER 2 A Lemonade Stand Selling lemonade from a homemade stand is a common tradition in America. It's also a fun way for families to work together. There's something for everyone in the family to do. Even the youngest family members can join in. The recipe for lemonade is simple. Lemon juice, water, and a sweetener are all you need. The lemonade stand also needs a sign. Making the sign can be a fun project for young artists. The sign should tell the cost of the lemonade so customers know how much to pay. You may have most of what you need to sell lemonade at home.
