Chapter 1 Meet the Mammals Check out this marvelous monkey! Did you know that it is a mammal?

There are more than 5, 000 types of mammals. Some live in the ocean. Some live on mountaintops or underground. A few even fly!

Mammals are the only animals that have hair and produce milk. Mother mammals use the milk to nurse their babies.

Mammals are warm-blooded. That means their body temperature stays the same whether it is hot or cold outside.

Chapter 2 Mammal Skills Different mammals have different diets. Giraffes, elephants, and deer eat only plants. Tigers, lions, and wolves eat only meat.
