CHAPTER 1 Who Were the Wright Brothers? Meet the two people who flew the first airplane! Wilbur and Orville Wright were brothers. Wilbur was born first, in 1867. Orville was born in 1871. Wilbur is on the left, Orville is on the right.

The boys grew up in lowa, Indiana, and Ohio. They loved to learn, think, and create in school and at home. School desks looked like this when the brothers were boys.

CHAPTER2 What Did the Wright Brothers Do? Wilbur got hurt playing hockey in 1885. It took him three years to get better. He spent the time reading and taking care of his sick mom. This is where the Wrights lived when Wilbur was recovering from his accident.

Orville began working in a print shop. Wilbur joined his brother when he felt well. They invented a better printing press. Letters like these were used in printing presses.
