CHAPTER 1 At the Pool Ty says, " I'm hot. " Jamal says, " I'm hotter. " Ty takes a drink. Jamal gnaws on a frozen fruit pop. Jamal's brother Martin says, " I'm the hottest. I'm as hot as a hot dog! "

The boys are at the pool with their families. Everyone is trying to stay cool. It's the hottest day of the year!

Ty says, " It has been a hot month. " Jamal says, " I hope it rains soon. The grass in our yard is yellow. " " I have a question, Jamal, " says Martin. " May I go swim now?"

Jamal says they can go swimming after they put on sunscreen. Then the children jump into the pool. STOP AND CHECK Where are the boys? Why are they there?
