How Fast Are You? Do you think you are a fast runner? How fast can you run?You may be fast for a person, but no one is as fast as some animals. For example, a cheetah can run up to 110 kilometres per hour. A horse can run almost 90. And a rabbit can run about 60. Even a wart hog can go as fast as 50 kilometres per hour! The fastest human once ran at a speed of about 45 kilometres per hour. That was for the 100-yard dash at the Olympics.
Now, the fastest man alive is Asafa Powell, a sprinter from Jamaica. He ran 100 metres in 9. 77 seconds. That's about 10 metres per second or 36. 8 kilometres per hour! That's just a little faster than an elephant! Feeling slow?Well, don't feel bad because humans can outrun snakes, chickens and mice. Just don't try to race a cheetah.
