A Vacation Yurt In school, we learned about the different ways people live in the world. You know, like the kinds of houses they live in, the food they eat and things like that. l found out something very interesting when we learned about Mongolia. For thousands of years, the Mongols have been building really unique houses. They are called yurts. Long ago, yurts were the perfect homes for the people of Mongolia. They were easy to build. They were also easy to move around from place to place.

Yurts were warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Today, many Mongols still live in yurts. There is a big park here in Canada where you can rent a yurt. When my family was planning our summer vacation, l asked if we could camp out in a yurt. My mom agreed. Wow, what a perfect house! As I went to sleep in the yurt the first night, I imagined that I was a Mongol boy, safe in my cozy family home.
