Red Wolves

Red Wolves Red wolves are the smallest wolves in the world. They are only about 26 inches tall at the shoulder. Red wolves live in packs of five to eight. A pack is made up of a father wolf, a mother wolf and their children.

The pack lives and hunts together. They hunt for small animals to eat, like rabbits and rodents. They eat insects and berries too. Red wolves in a pack communicate in many different ways. They make noises and bark. They make faces and use body language as well. One time, red wolves lived all over the south-eastern United States. But thirty years ago, they almost disappeared completely. Then, in 1980, twenty red wolves were found in the wild and taken to a safe place. There, they were able to have babies and increase their numbers. Now, there are over one hundred red wolves living in the wild.
