Why Is the Sky Blue? Betty is a smart little gil. She is always asking questions. “ Mommy, why is the sky blue?” Betty asks. Little Betty really wants to know the answer. " Why is it not red or green? Why is it not black or white? Why, Mommy? Why is the sky blue?" Betty's mom looks at her daughter. The answer is not easy to understand. But she tries to explain it in the simplest way possible. She says, " The sun gives off light that has all the colours of the rainbow in it—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.
She continues, " When the light travels to earth, it meets the small particles in the air. The light bounces off these particles and spreads the different colours all over the sky. Blue light spreads the most. This is why we see a blue sky. " Betty looks up at the sky. She sees blue. She understands a little now. When she is older, she will understand more.
