Why Is It Colder Up There? Miso and his father are flying from Korea to Canada. Miso is very excited. On the back of the seat, there is a small computer screen. It shows the path the jet is taking and how fast it is travelling. It also shows the temperature outside. Miso notices something really strange. The temperature outside the jet is-55℃. That's really cold. “ When we left Seoul it was nearly +25℃, ” thinks Miso. “ How can this be?” So he asks his father a question. " In this jet, we are closer to the sun. Shouldn't it be much hotter because we are closer to the sun?Why is it colder up here?"
Father smiles. “ The ground is very good at taking in the heat from the sun, " he explains. " The sun heats up the ground, which then slowly lets go of the heat. But we are many miles above the ground now in this jet. The heat from the ground cannot reach us here. " Miso has learned something interesting today.
