Yang Liwei was the first Chinese astronaut inspace. He flew into space in the rocket Shenzhou-5 on 15th September 2003. Yang Liwei was born in Liaoning Province in 1965. When he was eighteen, he became a cadet pilot in the army and learnt to fly fighter planes. In 1998, he began training as an astronaut with fourteen other cadets. Since only one of them could go into space, Yang Liwei decided to train hard no matter what difficulties he faced. On the evening before the launch, the cadets still did not know which one of them would go into space. Then Yang Liwei received a phone call. The next day he became the first Chinese astronaut in space! This is the rocket that Yang Liwei travelled in. It spent twenty-four hours going around the Earth.
