Chapter 7 Be a good citizen Read the first part of the story. There was a peaceful village called Summer Yillage. A boy named Jerry lived there with his family. All his neighbours were nice and friendly. There were no thefts in the village. One Sunday, Jerry's father was reading the newspaper while Jerry and his mother were having breakfast. Look at this. There have been five thefts in our village recently, ' he said. He passed the newspaper to Jerry. Unusual Thefts in Summer Village Five thefts have taken place in Summer Village since last Friday, 21 December. The strangest thing about these thefts was that the victims only lost strawberries from their gardens. The police think that there was only one thief. The thief entered the victims' gardens in the afternoon. The police also think that the thief may be someone living in the neighbourhood. That afternoon, Jerry and Mandy visited old Mr Hill. ' Did you hear about the thefts, children?' asked Mr Hill Yes, we did, ' said Jerry. 'One of the victims was my neighbour, Mrs Bell, ' said Mr Hill. Did you see or hear anything, Mr Hill?' asked Mandy. Yes, I did. I saw someone in black clothes. I think he was our neighbour, Mr Brown. He was walking to his house across the street, ' said Mr Hill. Later the children visited Mrs Bell. At the time of the theft, Mrs Bell was walking home while her son was doing homework at home. 'We're sorry to hear about the theft, Mrs Bell. Did you see anyone?'asked Jerry. Yes, I did. I saw someone in a T-shirt with a big strawberry on it. He was walking down the street, ' said Mrs Bell. " I know who that is. His name is Ricky. He lives near me, ' said Mandy. 'Good afternoon, Mr Brown, ' said the children. 'Good afternoon, children. I'm going to the supermarket to buy some fruit for tomorrow's breakfast. ' 'Fruit! Maybe he's the thief! ' Jerry whispered to Mandy. What fruit are you going to buy, Mr Brown?' asked Jerry. Some bananas and apples, ' said Mr Brown. Are you going to buy any strawberries?' asked Mandy. Strawberries?' said Mr Brown. 'No, I don't like strawberries. ' A little later, the children met Ricky at the bus stop. He was still wearing the T-shirt with the picture of a strawberry and looked energetic. 'Hi, Ricky. Where are you going?' asked Mandy. ' I'm going to work, Ricky answered with a smile. Where do you work?' asked Jerry. Ricky pointed at his T-shirt and said, 'I work on Happy Strawberry Farm. I love strawberries! I can eat strawberries all day long! ' The children said g
