Today is a day for learning. Let's learn about telephones. Many people have them. They have phones in their homes. Listen to this! A telephone rings!

A phone has a little place to talk. It has another place you can hear. A person who calls will want to talk. You hold the phone next to your ear.

It may be Grandma. She sounds so near! You hear Grandma through the phone line, but you know she is not here.

This telephone has a cord. The cord can be big or small. The cord helps your sister hear your voice-if she is the person you call.

When a telephone does not have a cord, it is called a cordless phone. You can pick it up in one room and talk from another room in your home.
