CHAPTER 2 ALL THE PRESIDENTS' PETS The next morning, Miss Maxwell took her class to the library to learn more about the presidents and to work on their projects. Fergus and Zeke climbed out of their cage so they could go, too. Zeke was still in his fancy George Mousington wig.

"Are you going to wear that to the library?" Fergus asked. "Of course!" Zeke said. "A president has to look his best." Mr. Diaz, the librarian, was waiting with a big display of books. "Use your time today to read about the presidents. Take some notes and draw some pictures," he told the class. "Then you can decide what your project will be about." Jake chose a book about William Henry Harrison. Emma chose one about Abraham Lincoln. Neela and Lucy picked a book about Barack Obama. Miss Maxwell said they could work together.

Fergus and Zeke didn't know which president to choose for their project. They flipped through a big book to get ideas. "All the good presidents are taken," Zeke grumbled.

"What about Jimmy Carter?" Fergus said. "He had a peanut farm. We like peanuts." "I like eating peanuts," Zeke said. "Not reading about them."
