Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1 THE PRESIDENTS' DAY CHALLENGE FERGUS AND ZEKE loved school. They were the class pets in Miss Maxwell's room, and they did everything the children did. When it was time for math class, Fergus and Zeke worked on problems together.

When the students did yoga, Fergus and Zeke tried out every pose. And when everyone gathered for show- and-tell, Fergus and Zeke shared their treasures with each other, too.

One day, Miss Maxwell circled a date on her calendar. "Presidents' Day is coming up soon." she said. "We will each do a special project to teach people about the presidents. You can choose to make a poster or a model or share a report."

Miss Maxwell showed the class a picture of the White House, where the president lives. "The president is the leader of the United States," she said. "What do you think it means to be a good leader?" "Leaders should be good listeners," said Will.
