38 Hide!

38 'Hide!' 'This way!' yelled Josephine. Rockwell and 72 followed her as she ran down the stairs and out of the tower. 'PLAY YOUR LITTLE GAMES IF YOU WANT TO,' said the tinny voice blaring from the speakers. 'BUT YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT I CAN PLAY GAMES TOO. AND THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES. IT'S CALLED... PERSUASION.' 'Persuasion?' shouted a breathless Rockwell as they all dashed towards the crayon fence. ' What the heck are they talking about?' RAZERS 19 AND 33, CHOOSE,' continued 67. 'Choose what?' said a confused Rockwell to 72.

'Apologies. I am unable to provide an answer for you,' replied the robot, politely. Then, just before they got to the opening in the fence, Josephine stopped so suddenly that Rockwell ran right into the back of her and fell over. 'What the—!' he exclaimed, standing up and dusting himself down. 'Shh,' she whispered. 'Something's happening.' All three of them watched as the RAZERs closest to the gateway started to move. In unison, they turned one hundred and eighty degrees to face away from the lake. Then they slowly started to glide towards the opening... straight towards Josephine, Rockwell and 72! ' Quick,' said Rockwell, urgently. 'We need to hide!'

'Yes, but... where?' asked Josephine, looking at the wide, featureless expanse of concrete they were currently standing on. 'I've got an idea,' replied Rockwell. 'This way!' He ran over to a pile of discarded paint tins left over from the fence's recent technicolour refurbishment. He started to pick them up, one by one, and shake them. ' Yes!' he said when he got to the third tin. ' This one's almost full!' He prised the lid off and lifted the tin high above his head. ' Er, what are you doing?' asked Josephine. 'Lord knows I'm no Marcel Duchamp,' Rockwell said, 'but I think it's time we made a little art installation of our own.
