花生琼斯 · 2 Peanut Jones and the Twelve Portals

54 Green to Red

54 Green to Red As they rode their coffee table higher and higher, circling the Spire as they climbed, Peanut pulled Little Tail from her bandolier in readiness. 'Here we are, citizen!' announced Table Guy when they were fifteen metres or so from the very tip at the top. 'Now, go ahead. Be the hero you were born to be and make a difference!' Peanut drew a large dotted-line oval on the wall, then stepped back. 'OK,' she said. 'Ready? After three: one... two... THREE!' The two of them kicked the wall as hard as they could, right in the centre of the oval, and it popped out as if the dotted lines were perforations.

'It worked,' shouted Peanut, before jumping through the hole. They had judged its position perfectly. She was back in the control room, right next to the missing works of art, opposite the drawings of doors that served as Mr White's personal portals to the real world. She noticed that the one that had the letters 'NYC' stencilled above it was wide open, as was the one with the 'L' above it. She ran straight over to the console, stood over the buttons, which were all glowing green, and started pressing them as quickly as she could. A few seconds later they were all red. She ran back to the hole in the wall, and jumped back on to the table. 'Our work here is done,' she said. 'Hey!' replied Table Guy. 'That's my line!'
