Unit 4 Page 38 Reading Exercise 3 GREAT CITIES to visit Istanbul, Turkey The wonderful city of lstanbul is a great place to visit. It is an old city, but there are some modern things to see, too. You can visit the beautiful Topkapi Palace and then go to Sultanahmet Square. On one side of the square is the Blue Mosque, and, on the other side, the museum of Hagia Sofia. Take a boat trip on the Bosphorus - the water between the two sides of the city. Then stop and have coffee - there are many cafes in the city. Are there any good places to eat? Of course! There are many restaurants, and you can eat great fish for lunch or dinner at Kumkapi Market. Nara, Japan Nara is an old city in Japan, about 400 km from Tokyo. It isn't very big - about 400,000 people live there - but it is famous for many things. Many visitors go to see the Todai-ji Temple, a huge wooden building. There is a statue inside. It's over 15 metres tall! In the city there is a park with hundreds of deer. There aren't any walls in the park, so the deer can walk anywhere in the city. Buy some special food and give it to them - they love it!

People also call it 'the park of museums' because there are many interesting museums there. B Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, US Everyone knows the Golden Gate Bridge, but did you know that there is a Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, too? It's very big (4.8km long, almost 1km wide) and at one end you can see the sea. C Chapultepec Park, Mexico City, Mexico Chapultepec Park is an important green space in this big city. It has a lake and a hill with a castle on it. People in Mexico City love going there. D EI Parque del Buen Retiro, Madrid, Spain In Madrid there is a very big park called Buen Retiro. There are trees and paths and a lovely rose garden, too. There is also a beautiful glass palace. E The lguana Park, Guayaquil, Ecuador The park's real name is Parque Seminario, but everyone calls it the lguana Park because it is full of iguanas. The iguanas are very friendly. People go there and feed them. F Mount Faber Park, Singapore On a mountain near Singapore, there is a park called Mount Faber. You can get there by cable car. In the park you can walk on a long path, or on an amazing bridge. You get a great view of the city.
