This thing zapped us millions of years into the past by flying SUPER-CRAZY-FAST. How can it send us BACK if it's broken?

Hmmm, well, that's the thing— it got us BACK TO EARTH by moving us quickly, so yes, it definitely used SPEED to move us through SPACE... But what I want to do is find the part of this contraption that moved us through TIME. That's a TOTALLY different thing. Don't you think?
