Chapter 9 to 14

9 The first Mile of the Race It turns out racing is pretty much birds flying and not doing much else but here's what happened. After one mile Dave was cruising through the air, following closely after Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot, who was ahead by about ten beaks.

10 The Tenth Mile of the Race Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot was still ahead by about ten beaks.

11 The Twentieth Mile of the Race Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot was still ahead by about ten beaks. Actually it was nine beaks. Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot was ahead by nine beaks. sorry. I got that wrong. It was about ten beaks, Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot was still ahead by about ten beaks.

12 The Twenty-fifth Mile of the Race Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot and Dave looped around the pylon on the hill and started to soar back towards Pawsville Vets. (Oh and Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot was ahead by about ten beaks.)

13 The Thirtieth Mile of the Race You guessed it. Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot was still ahead by about ten beaks. I've just made up a pirate shanty. Let's hear it. Some biscuits are round and some of them are not. And some of them are long and some of them are not. But the worst biscuits arrrrre the ones filled with snot. That's not a shanty. That's a song about biscuits. That's what I meant. I made up a song about biscuits.

14 The Fortieth Mile of the Race Opprobrious Vastanavius the Parrot was ahead. But now by ten and a half beaks. Dave, your catbrained biscuit song is stuck in my head. It's catchy, isn't it? Some biscuits are round and some of them are not. And some of them are long and some of them are not...
