5 The Toilet Brush Knocking at the Window Tap. Tap. A shadow at an upstairs window of Reginald Grimster's house caught my eye. Tap. Tap. Tap. The blurred grey rounded head of a toilet brush appeared to be knocking at the window for my attention. I flew closer. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. 'I'm not a toilet brush, you nestbrain,' a voice cawed back. 'Who are you?' 'I'm fine.' 'No,' I said. 'Who are you? What's your name?' 'Fine.' 'No,' I said again. 'Not how are you. Who are you?' 'Fine!' the voice cried back. 'I'm fine.' 'OK.' I wanted to leave. 'I'm going. Glad you're OK.' 'It's spelled F-I-E-N-N-E!' the voice shrieked. 'My name is Fienne!' 'Ohhh,' I exclaimed. 'I've just had a feather-blazing row with my friend,' I explained. 'I told him I'm leaving, so I kind of have to leave in order to prove my point.' 'This is a matter of life or death. We are all in danger!' 'We?' 'Can you open this window and come inside?' Fienne said, his voice urgent. 'It's very hard to balance on a toilet seat when your leg is trapped.' my foot through the small gap at the bottom of the frame and shimmied across, wiggling my beak, then my head, then my neck through as the window slowly creaked open, letting me in. 'Fienne?'
