鸽子戴夫 · 2 Dave Pigeon Nuggets
13 Home Sweet Jammy Biscuit Home I don't know why you ever doubted that the Human Lady would come home. Everyone knows you have to come home after a holiday. You're the one who said she was gone forever! Go back and read chapter one whilst I finish the story.
As Him Next Door filled his car with shopping, we clambered in through an open window and hid in the passenger footwell. We listened to his terrible singing all the way home, as he warbled along to the radio.
I could hear Dave breathe a huge sigh of relief as Him Next Door pulled up alongside our Human Lady's house. There was something about being home that felt like discovering an abandoned ice cream cart on a warm summer's day. We jumped out of the car, while Him Next Door unloaded the bags from the boot and padded across the lawn towards the Human Lady's house. He noticed us and came over, his hand filled with broken biscuit bits from a packet of digestives in one of his shopping bags. 'You're the pigeons from the shed, aren't you?' he said. We nodded. 'Well, you look like the pigeons from the shed,' he said, clearly not understanding
our nod. 'Don't you worry, little guys. She'll be back from her holiday in a few days.' 'She's coming back!' Dave cooed at me. 'I knew she wouldn't leave us!' We gobbled up the crumbs from Him Next Door and watched him head back across the front lawn towards his home. Then we scrambled around the side of the house and into the back garden. 'You don't suppose she'll come back without Mean Cat, do you?' Dave asked hopefully. 'I think she'll be back with Mean Cat,' I said. 'She loves that catbrained furball. Dave sighed. 'Oh well. I suppose it could
be worse. One Mean Cat is better than being nuggeted.' 'Think of all the delicious biscuits and bread,' I said back. 'One Mean Cat is better than a lifetime of birdseed.' Dave nodded. 'And at least she only has one cat,' he said. 'One Mean Cat is definitely better than two Mean Cats.' And he's right. But that's a story for another time.
