Chapter 3 PLAYFUL PAWS WEDNESDAY Dear Diary, The shelter was not like I thought it would be. The workers were nice, but it was loud and crowded and it smelled funny. I don't think Kitty likes it here. You're okay, Kitty. It's different here, isn't it?

The kitten was afraid. Luckily, the workers let Bella hold her while we walked around. Bella and Jack asked tons of questions. Where will she sleep? Will she be with other kittens? Do you check on the animals at night? How long do pets wait to get a home?

They showed us the play area for the kittens last. It was pretty sad looking. There were no toys. How come they don't have toys to play with? We can't afford toys. All our money comes from donations. We use the donations to pay! for food and medicine. There isn't money left over for toys.

Diary, can you believe the kittens don't have toys to play with? I decided right then to leave my toy with the kitten. Are you sure, Bubby? It's one of your favorites. You need it more than me.

We said good-bye to the kitten and left the shelter. But we were sad on the way home. I wish we could help the shelter. What can we do? We don't have any money.

When we were almost home, Luna spotted a sprinkler. You know there is no stopping Luna when she sees water. Whoa! Slow down, Luna! Oh no! Water!
