17 The Last Mohican

CHAPTER 17 The Last Mohican Hundreds of ravens flew high above the trees. The people below them were very sad. No songs of triumph were heard on this day. All of the Delaware people stood in a circle in the middle of their village. They were paying their respects to Cora and Uncas. Chingachgook stood tall. He looked sad, but he was proud of his brave son. David sang a hymn, which echoed through the trees. The general cried openly, and Alice comforted him.

Then Duncan led them away. It was finally time to go home. Chingachgook turned to Hawkeye and said, "I am now alone." The scout put his hand on the elder Mohican's shoulder. "You are not alone, Chingachgook. Uncas may be gone, but you are not alone." And the two men bowed their heads together and cried.
