Maddy Yips · Maddy Yip's Guide to Life
Saturday Was at Dev's again this morning. Mam thinks I am doing homework but really I am doing something more important and staying well away from EVIL TWINS. Especially today as Mam was planning on making playdough with them out of flour, water and food colouring. I dread to think of the resulting carnage! Mr Tatlock doesn't pick them up until one o'clock so Mrs Sharma (Dev's mam) insisted I stay for a delicious Indian
lunch. This was an added bonus as Mam is still cooking disgusting health food. Dev was wearing a psychedelic kaftan. He found it in a charity shop in town. I asked which one and he said Age Concern. More like Fashion Concern, if you ask me. I told Dev about the paint pandemonium and he was gutted he'd missed it. Then I showed him the box I'd found in the shed. 'We've got one of those at drama club,' he said. 'They're magic.' It would be magic if Dev ever got round to revealing his mentoring plans. WHAAAT?! He had only got as far as acquiring a writing implement! I quickly put the pad down when I heard him coming back. I was disappointed that in five days, that was all he'd managed. I couldn't blame him though. I did warn him I wasn't good at anything. When I got home, Jack was carrying a box down the stairs. 'Hey, Nut, take this to the garden!' he ordered, thrusting it at me. He is becoming very bossy these days. Dad says it's teenage hormones, but I reckon he's annoyed that his moustache hasn't made an
appearance yet. 'It's the experiments you need to help me with,' he said. I was still worried about what he wanted me to do, then remembered I was searching for my hidden talent and had to be up for trying anything at this stage, even if it did mean sitting in a bath full of worms. I needn't have worried though as the box only had pop bottles, plasticine, coloured card, and a tube of chewy mints in it. Jack told me the three experiments would be:
