6 June

6 June I can't believe we have to go to school in June. Nobody should have to go to school during the summer. "It's not fair!" said Ryan, Alexia, Michael, Neil, and I. "I like going to school during the summer," said Andrea.

"Me too," said Emily. "We get to learn more things." What is their problem? Mean Dr. Carbles was slinking around on June 1 to make sure everybody showed up at school. Going to school in June was horrible. But we made the best of it because June 1 is National Go Barefoot Day. So we got to walk around school without shoes or socks. That was fun. But it wasn't as much fun as June 2. Mrs. Roopy told us it was Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day. WHAT?! "Let's celebrate!" we all shouted. Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day is the weirdest holiday in the history of holidays. At noon, we all went outside, faced south, and yelled "Fudge!" Why? Because it prevents cobras from invading North America.*

I had some questions for Mrs. Roopy about this holiday. First of all, do cobras really understand human speech? And why would yelling "fudge" prevent them from invading North America? What if we just yelled "chocolate"? And if cobras hate fudge so much, why don't we just scatter pieces of fudge all over North America to keep them away? While I was asking these questions, Andrea was looking up cobras on the computer. "Hmmm," she said. "There are hardly any cobras in North America anyway. Cobras live

mostly in Africa and Asia." "See?" said Mrs. Roopy. "That proves that Yell 'Fudge' at the Cobras in North America Day is working. We keep the cobras away by yelling 'fudge.'" Good point. I wondered why people in Africa and Asia don't yell "fudge" on June 2. That might keep their cobras away. Anyway, to celebrate Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day, Mrs. Roopy got a big hunk of fudge that we cut up into pieces. I ate so much fudge, I thought I was going to throw up. It was the greatest day of my life. And I didn't see a single cobra.
