Chapter Nine Nobody Loves You When You're Down and Doug'd Walking toward the chasm, Finn felt sick to his stomach. He didn't know why he was so annoyed with Foggy. Foggy was his robot! His best friend! But each time Foggy had flown over to convince him to talk with Abigail, something had itched at him. He couldn't explain it, but he felt angry, like Foggy was getting in the way. He felt like he was literally seeing red whenever Foggy appeared. He tried to remember something Doug had said about being Doug'd, but it was all a blur. Vale was acting the same way. In fact, Vale didn't even seem like Vale anymore. The second
time Foggy flew over to them, Vale laughed when the big alien swatted the robot. Finn knew that wasn't right, but he also felt helpless. "Don't worry, young explorers," said Doug. He was riding on the shoulder of one of the giants. "I know it is difficult to break away from one's friends. Living with others can be difficult. Leaders before me sought to build bridges between us and the other species on this planet. But building bridges takes a lot of work. Only I, Doug—" "Doug!" shouted the other aliens.

"Yes, Doug. I knew that we needed to think only about ourselves. Since slowly removing the others from the planet, our kind has flourished. And if it weren't for that one annoying little bunny, we would have lived on for centuries here, happy and peaceful." Something about Doug's speech seemed wrong to Finn, but he was having trouble clearing his thoughts. "You can't just tell everyone what to do," said Finn. "But that's my thing," said Doug. "Yeah, but," Finn said. He tried to focus. "Just because you're the leader, that doesn't mean you get to decide everything. You should care what other people say. Like Abigail. She thinks just because she's captain—" "Are you questioning Doug?" asked Doug. "Doug!" cried the other aliens. "No," said Finn. The giant walking in front of Finn looked over his shoulder and growled. "Good leaders respect their team," said Finn. "It didn't seem like you were respecting Abigail," said Doug.
"I don't know," said Finn. "I guess you're right. Maybe I was wrong about Abigail. She wasn't trying to hurt us or anything. And she does listen sometimes—" "Listen?" said Doug. "I have no need for that. For I am Doug." "Doug!" shouted the other aliens. "We have seven and a half minutes to get off this planet," said Doug. "Stop thinking about this Abigail. You're with me now." And Finn, still feeling sick to his stomach, couldn't argue. For some reason, all he could think about was flying off in the explorer pod, drinking that lemonade, and sitting on a sandy beach.
