Chapter ONE It was the morning of Midwinter's Eve and I woke up feeling very excited. I had been waiting for this day to arrive all year! Midwinter's Eve is a special night for the Fairy Realm. It's a celebration of nature and the seasons and is on the longest night of the year!
My Aunt Crystal and Uncle Wren had invited us to go and stay with them in the Winter Fairy Realm. They had promised to take us to the Frost Festival! There would be ice skating, twinkling lights, hot chocolate, snow, and lots of other lovely and exciting things!
I jumped out of bed and put on my clothes. Then, to save time, I flew down the stairs, flapping my little vampire-fairy wings, with Pink Rabbit bouncing along behind me. Pink Rabbit used to be my favourite stuffed toy but my mum magicked him alive with her wand. She can do things like that because she is a fairy. 'Morning, Isadora,' said Mum when I arrived in the kitchen. 'Sleep well?' 'Sort of,' I said. 'But
there were butterflies fluttering around in my tummy all night. I'm so excited!' Mum laughed. 'Well, we'll be leaving for the Winter Fairy Realm soon,' she said. 'I've made you a hearty breakfast!' She put a bowl of porridge down in front of me. There were walnuts sprinkled on top of it. I reached for the maple syrup. Next to me, my baby sister Honeyblossom stuck her fingers into her own bowl of porridge and then wiped them in her hair. 'I've made some for you too, Bartholomew,' Mum said. 'Me?' said Dad, looking shocked. 'Porridge! I can't eat porridge! It's not very vampire-y. It's not even red and you know
I only eat red food. 'I know,' smiled Mum. She placed a bowl on the table in front of Dad. I leant over to look. She had mixed up the porridge with loads of raspberries and sprinkled them on top too.
