Chapter TWO 'Tell Mum and Dad I've gone out for a bit,' I called to Wilbur, as I ran past the sitting room. 'I'm going to see if Mrs Blue needs any help walking her dogs. I'm starting a dog-walking business!' 'Uh, OK...' replied Wilbur through a mouthful of chocolate biscuits. I left the house and ran down our

garden path, out of the gate, and then into Mrs Blue's front garden, which bloomed with summer flowers. There were puffy-looking marigolds that twinkled with permanent dewdrops, zingy zinnias boasting rainbow petals,

and powder-blue roses the colour of the sky. Mrs Blue is also a witch. She loves her garden, and she can often be spotted outdoors, sprinkling spells onto her flowers.

I stood on the doorstep and smoothed down my clothes, noticing for the first time that there were stains on my dress. Oops! I hoped that Mrs Blue wouldn't notice. It was important to look professional for my first job! Hurriedly, I tried to hide the stains beneath my long hair. Then, I rang the doorbell, suddenly feeling a little bit nervous. Tring a ling a ling! 'Mirabelle!' said Mrs Blue, opening the door. 'How lovely to see you!' She was wearing a pale lilac dress with a matching pointed hat and big horn-rimmed spectacles. Her hair was coiffed into soft pink curls. She smelled of lavender.

'Good afternoon, Mrs Blue,' I said politely. 'I've started a dog-walking business, and I was wondering if you'd like me to take Dotty and Dylis out?' 'Oh!' said Mrs Blue, sounding a little unsure. 'Well, my dear, they can be a bit of a handful. I don't know...' 'I'm very good with animals,' I said quickly. 'I'm absolutely certain I can handle them! I promise I'll keep them on their leads.' I gave Mrs Blue my most beaming, reassuring smile.
