米拉贝尔 · 11 Mirabelle and the Picnic Pranks

Chapter 6

Chapter SIX I craned my neck to take a look at my wings. 'Oh no!' I said as I caught a glimpse of two very soggy, sticky, limp fairy wings, covered in jam and cream. Hurriedly I tried to climb out of the bowl instead. It was very slippy, slidy work. I was out of breath by the time

I had finally managed it, landing back down on the kitchen counter with a bump. 'Ouch!' I sat there for a few minutes, wondering what to do. Without working wings, I couldn't fly back upstairs to where I had left the

bottle of shrinking potion on my potion charm necklace. The stairs were too steep to climb. I was stuck being tiny! Mum was going to be furious, But... if I could somehow get my wings working again, maybe there would be time to reverse the potion before Mum found out what I had done. The wings just needed to be washed and dried, that was all! Surely that couldn't be too difficult? I stared across the counter at the kitchen sink. The taps loomed up at me. There was no way I'd be able to turn them on at my size. There must be another way.

I glanced out of the kitchen window at the cloudless sky, where an arc of water droplets twinkled against the bright blue. The sprinkler! If I could get to the sprinkler, I could wash the wings and then dry them in the sunshine!

But how was I going to get into the garden? How was I even going to get down off the counter? I looked around the room. There was a tea towel hanging down off the counter, almost to the floor. I could try and climb down that!

I hurried towards it, passing the pile of miniature cocktail umbrellas as I went, which gave me another brilliant idea. I picked up a green one and twirled it above my head. This umbrella would make a good disguise! I could hide behind it while I was in the garden so that Mum and Dad wouldn't spot me.
