米拉贝尔 · 11 Mirabelle and the Picnic Pranks

Chapter 4

Chapter FOUR I started to back away, out of the kitchen. 'DON'T MOVE!' Mum shouted. 'There's broken crockery everywhere.' I stood rooted to the spot. I had a feeling I was in serious trouble this time. 'WHAT in the name of leaping frogs has been going on?' she asked. 'First, you put frogspawn in Wilbur's drink and

now you've flooded the kitchen. You were supposed to be on your best behaviour today! Is this another one of your Pranks?' She tried to get up but slipped right back down again.

'I'm sorry!' I gabbled. 'The kitchen wasn't a prank I was just trying to tidy up.' 'And what about the frogspawn?' asked Mum, getting to her feet and grabbing a broomstick to sweep up the mess. 'Well... he deserved it!' I said. 'Maybe you should go to your room for a bit until our guests have left,' said Mum, tipping the broken crockery into the bin. I stared at Mum and folded my arms. There was no point arguing with her when she was in this mood. It was so unfair. 'Can I at least have pudding?' I asked.

'NO!' said Mum. Then she disappeared out of the door into the garden. I stared after her, feeling wounded. Then I beckoned Violet to me, and I walked slowly up the stairs to my bedroom.

'I guess we're in prison until the afternoon is over,' I said as we stared out of the window and down into the garden, where I could see my family and our guests sitting together. They were all digging into the yummy puddings and my mouth watered. 'Oh Violet,' I sighed. 'Why am I always getting into trouble?' Violet nuzzled me and I gave her little head a pat. 'At least you love me,' I said.
