米拉贝尔 · 11 Mirabelle and the Picnic Pranks

Chapter 3

Chapter THREE 'Argh!' I huffed. 'Wilbur is so annoying!' I slammed his drink down on the counter a little harder than necessary and lemonade sploshed out. 'Whoops!' I really did need to tidy this mess up before Mum saw it. But first, Wilbur's drink! He'd

made me so cross that I decided to make something that would surprise him. My toes tingled with mischief. I opened the fridge and took out a bowl of slippy, slimy, wibbly, wobbly frogspawn. Mum likes to mix it into her porridge in the morning sometimes, but Wilbur and I hate it. I poured cloudy pink lemonade into a new glass and then spooned in some frogspawn which sank to the bottom.

Wilbur would never know! Well, not until he got to the end of his drink... I carried the glass back outside and gave it to Wilbur. 'Looks like sisters can be useful after all!' He grinned at Oswald. 'You're welcome, Wilbur,' I said sweetly. Then I moved away from them both, trying to look innocent. I should probably go and tidy the kitchen now... 'Do you want a veggie burger, Mirabelle?' asked Dad. 'They're ready!' 'Ooh, yes please!'

I hurried over to Dad, who was busy taking all the vegetarian fairy food off the barbecue and piling it onto a plate. There were delicious-looking veggie burgers, strips of squeaky cheese, grilled peppers, and corn on the cobs. 'Yum!' I said as Dad piled my plate high. Dad made another plate up for Wilbur and then one for himself. While we ate, Mum began to cook the witch food. 'Time for the proper stuff!' she said, chucking the beetle burgers and bug skewers onto the barbecue and cackling in a very dramatic way. 'Oh yeah!' cried Oswald.

'I can't wait!' said Frederick, rubbing his tummy. 'It all looks amazing!' Felice didn't say anything, but I did see her licking her lips. While we were eating, I kept

glancing at Wilbur—he was almost halfway through his drink! 'Scrumptious food, Seraphina!' boomed Frederick as he chomped down on his burger.
