忍者猫托托 · 5 Toto the Ninja Cat and the Legend of the Wildcat
EPILOGUE Edinburgh's Waverley Station was abuzz with passengers and luggage as the animals rushed to make the departure of the Caledonian sleeper train that would take them back to London. Catface had insisted that they TRAVEL IN STYLE and had booked two berths for the four to share. Sandy and Sergeant Major Gordon (who had subsequently been promoted on the strict understanding that the camp didn't ONLY serve porridge and that rehabilitation through
art, exercise, budgie appreciation and poetry should replace the old-fashioned tasks) had both come to see them off. Sandy gave Toto an enormous hug and promised the ninja a lifetime's supply of smoked salmon: 'JUST, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, OK?' Silver and Catface were desperate to get to the dining car and were dragging Socks along, but Toto couldn't wait to be snuggled up in a real bed and get a good night's sleep. She was making her bed up as the train got ready to depart but something made her whiskers prickle. She looked out of the window at the train opposite. She could only see the blurry shadows of the carriages so she pulled down the window to allow her senses to explore more. WAS SHE IN DANGER? She didn't think so, but there was a smell of something very familiar. The little ninja smiled as she realised who she had recognised.

'It's the aftershave, isn't it? My own fault; vanity getting in the way again. Catnip and sandalwood- I'll never learn, Ferdicat said, smiling, as he hung out of the doorway of the train opposite. Why did you disappear? We owe you a great deal -if you haven't helped us EDINBURGH WOULD BE OVERRUN right now, and Roderick would be in charge. As would you!' 'Urgh, I know, don't remind me,' he said, recoiling. 'Trust me, it's very odd, doing the right thing. I feel a trifle ill! I could have done a great job of running this town. I'd have made sure the trains were running on time for a start. 'So what now?' she asked him. 'I'm sure I can smooth things over with Larry. Come back with us; we need you.' 'My dear girl, you most certainly don't- you're well on the way to being twice the ninja Larry or
I were. BUT DO SEND THE STUBBORN OLD GOAT MY LOVE. I'll look him up next time I'm in town. No, I think I'll head north for a while and see where the wind takes me. I do still want to take over the world, you know. I say, doesn't that make me a wanted animal?' 'Yes, but I think we'll give you a head start. Let's say twelve or so hours before I get back to London and report seeing you. Thank you, Ferdicat, for everything. You might be a criminal mastermind but you stood up to be counted when it mattered. ADF looked touched and embarrassed. He doffed his hat to the little ninja gently and then, with a SWISH OF HIS CAPE, he was gone, leaving only the steam of the train in his wake. Toto looked up and down the platform but her senses picked up nothing. Smiling to herself she shut the window and
made her way to the dining car to find her friends. Maybe she was a bit peckish after all.
