忍者猫托托 · 5 Toto the Ninja Cat and the Legend of the Wildcat
CHAPTER 9 'So what's our plan?' asked Toto as the unlikely allies huddled round for a pow-wow. 'Well, the thing that hasn't changed in all of this is how much Roderick hates you. Up to now, he hasn't seen through your disguise- which, by the way, is a miracle as it's just you dressed up as an old lady. But you know, he's not the brightest. I clocked you the minute you got to camp. So my idea is for you to show your true face when we are addressing the troops.
He'll be so mad at seeing you he'll chase after you, leaving me to charm the army. Then we can round him up and work out what to do with him.' 'In other words, you want to use me for bait?' Toto observed. 'Weeellll, I wouldn't put it quite like that, but... it's one way you COULD define the plan. What do you think?' he said with a grimace. 'I DON'T SEE THAT WE'VE GOT ANY OTHER CHOICE,' the ninja replied. 'And it's an excellent choice, Toto. You won't regret it, ADF said as he put his boots back on. 'I'll see you at the top of the hill in three hours. I'll be on a small wooden stage at the front- wait for my signal to show yourself. I'll give you a subtle nod. Good luck. With a trademark bow, he was gone. 'Sis,' piped up Silver, 'even if we do trust ADF- which I still have issues with- I'm really scared about this.
Suppose we get caught?' I'm not crazy about it either, but WE HAVE TO STOP THAT ARMY MARCHING TONIGHT. Hopefully by now Sandy will have made contact with Larry and he'll be on his way with help. Until then, it's just us.' By the time they left the badger sett, the sun had left the sky and they moved easily under the cover of darkness. As they got closer to the top of the hill, they could see the fires and torches where the crowd was gathering. Toto turned to her brothers and Catface. 'You all stay here, safely out of sight. With any luck Roderick will give chase. I'll lead him a merry dance, let ADF work his magic and our job will be done. Silver put a paw on his sister's shoulder. 'Toto, I'm coming with you. With your eyesight, there's no way you'll be able to see ADF give his signal in the dark.' 'OK,' she agreed. 'But don't take any chances.'
'Good luck, guys!' Socks said nervously as his older siblings turned to make their way through the undergrowth to the clearing where the army were mustering. A Border terrier guard patrolling the perimeter generously, if unwittingly, gave up its military beret and jacket for Silver to have an ELEMENT OF DISGUISE, as Toto swept its legs from underneath it with a kick and dragged it into the bushes. The cats then slowly melted into the crowd and cautiously made their way forward. Roderick was on a stage built from old dead wood and bracken. His army were hanging on his every word. 'Tonight, my friends, we march into history to fulfil our destiny!' 'Oh blimey, not this old nonsense again, Silver whispered to his sister.
