地球上最后的男孩 · 3 The Last Kids on Earth and the Nightmare King
Chapter Five Okay, so... my plan is not off to a good start. It's hard to make your friends want to stick around when stuff like this keep happening: Jack He's trying to eat me again When I saw Quint about to get gobbled, I was like, "Oh crud! Stuff like that's only going to make
Quint want to find his parents more! And that means he'll work harder to complete the radio! I must immediately put a stop to all potential Quint-eating incidents, and I must show Quint and the monsters a whole mother lode of awesome!" This is my first chance to prove that I am master, creator, and keeper of all things radically fun. I'm checking the date on our calendar when I come up with a plan. BTW: I'm obsessed with our calendar. I call it the Bubble Wrap Zombies of Wakefield Date Keeper. A big sheet of bubble wrap represents each month. When the day ends, we tack a photo of a zombie onto the date and pop the bubble. I am, naturally, Chief Zombie Photographer.
Anyway, I see it's been exactly one month since the monsters and us humans teamed up to defeat Thrull and stop .e...c. from devouring Earth. And that's the perfect excuse for a massive celebration— monsters and humans having a blast together! First, I tell my human buds. "Guys!" I say. "What do you think about a sort of humans-versusmonsters Olympics? Like, a big bash: games during the day, a big BBQ at night!" Dirk shrugs. June and Quint shoot me dagger eyeballs that say, "NO WAY. MUST WORK ON
RADIO. RADIO IMPORTANT. GAMES NOT IMPORTANT." June explains they're building something called a "long-range signal-boosting antenna." Sigh, groan, and crud—curse that stupid, goodfor-nothing radio! Curse it to the seas, I say! But I don't give up and I don't get down (except on the dance floor, where I always get down, 'cause I'm an absolute tornado of rhythmic ridiculousness). Anyway, after a full day of me popping up and bugging my friends about the games nonstop...
June and Quint finally give in after I burst into the tree house and blast them with our supercharged leaf blower. Quint says to June, "A day of fun could
do us some good... We must let our brains rest sometimes." June, who needs Quint's mega-brain well rested so he can complete the radio, relents as well. And Dirk just shrugs as usual and says, "A'ight." "BOMB!!" I exclaim. "Yes, yes, yes!" In a flash, I'm zip-lining from the tree house to Joe's Pizza—where I announce to the town... Monster friends. I hereby propose the first ever Monsters versus Humans Almighty Ultraimportant tournament games who?
