The Wishing Well

"Hey, Terry," I said. "Did you borrow my pencil sharpener?" "Yes," said Terry. "Can I have it back?" "No," said Terry. "Why not?" "Because I ate it." "You ate it?" "Yeah," said Terry. "I was hungry. I wanted a banana cream pie but I couldn't find one, so I ate the pencil sharpener instead." "I wish you hadn't done that," I said. "So do I," said Terry. "It didn't taste very nice." "Of course it didn't!" I said. "It was a pencil sharpener." "Do you know what I wish?" said Terry.

"No, what?" "I wish we had a wishing well," said Terry. "We do," I said. "It's on the wishing-well level, remember?" "Yay!" said Terry. "I got my wish! I wish we could go there right now!" "We can!" I said. "Yay!" said Terry. "I got another wish, and we're not even at the wishing well yet!" I was about to explain to him that to get a true wish you have to make your wish and then throw a wishing- well coin down the wishing well, but at that moment Jill arrived.

"Hi, Jill!" said Terry. "We're going to the wishing- well level.

Do you want to come?" "Ooh, yes, please," said Jill.

So we began climbing. On the way we stopped at Pinchy McPhee's Two
