小屁孩树屋历险记 · 11 The 143-Storey Treehouse
CHAPTER 12 WEDDING BEEPS Did somebody say WEDDING? 'I feel sorry for Fred,' says Jill, 'but I feel even sorrier for the hobyahs.' 'Are you kidding me?' I say. 'They tied you up in a bag, poked you with a stick and yelled "Hobyah!" at you over and over!' 'And not only that, but they stole my camera!' says Jimmy. 'I've lost all of my what-were-sure-to-be
award-winning photos!' 'And they stole my notebook and pen,' says Wanda. 'All my notes. All my interviews. All burned up by a dragon. Now we have no story!' I hear a clanking sound and look around. Mary and Edward have put their heads together and are whispering excitedly.
Edward looks up. 'Maybe Mary and I can help,' he says to Wanda. 'I think we might have a scoop for you!' 'Thanks, Edward,' says Wanda, 'but I don't feel like ice-cream at the moment. What I need is a story.' 'That's exactly what we're offering you,' says Mary. 'We're not talking about a scoop of ice-cream—we're talking about news.'
'News?' says Wanda. 'What sort of news?' 'Edward and I have decided to get married,' says Mary. 'That's wonderful!' I say. 'We've never had a wedding in the treehouse before.' We all crowd around Edward and Mary and congratulate them.
'Can we throw nuts and bolts, instead of confetti?' says Terry. 'Of course,' says Edward. 'That's what happens at robot weddings.' 'That is definitely great news,' says Wanda. 'I'm very happy for you both. But, unfortunately, GO AWAY! magazine doesn't cover weddings—it's only about holidays.'
'We know!' says Mary. 'And that's what we're talking about—we would like to offer GO AWAY! magazine exclusive rights to our wedding and our honeymoon holiday!' 'Yes,' says Edward. 'We are going to Ye Olde Worlde Historical Village where we will feast on old- efashioned ice-cream and lollipops, have a carriage ride down the olde-fashioned main street, get our circuits tuned by an olde-fashioned technician and take part in an olde-fashioned bar room brawl in Ye Olde Historical Saloon!'
