7 A strange story

Chapter 7 A strange story Harry and Anna were more confused than ever, but Edmund had no time for other questions. "I'm afraid I have to go," he said, "but I'll be back soon. You'll be safe here." And he set off, with a scarf wound tightly around his head.

"Did you recognize him?" Harry asked Anna, when they were alone. "I'm sure I've seen him before." Anna shook her head. "He seems friendly though," she said. Suddenly, there was a knock on the window and a loud scream. They're alive! "Miss Charlotte?" Harry dashed to the door to let her in. "I thought you were dead," she cried, "I can't believe you're here!" Quickly, she told them what had happened at Mystery Mansion.

In the middle of last night, she had been woken by Mr. Paulfrey shouting at the servants. Wake up everyone! "Listen all of you! Is anyone missing?" he had demanded. Harry Grubb is missing, sir. So is Anna Sargeant. Then, in the morning, Mr. Paulfrey announced that Harry and Anna had stolen a silver cup.

He said they'd dropped the cup before drowning in the marshes. The thieves left this evidence. But we're not thieves! "Don't worry," said Charlotte. "My father will sort this out." Harry took a deep breath. "It's not as simple as that," he said. "I think your father and Paulfrey are up to something together."
