死海松鼠系列 · 8 A Dusty Donkey Detour
CHAPTER 19 "I'm sorry, sir, he's not here." The Gomezes' first stop upon arriving back in Jerusalem was at the Antiquities Museum. Now Dr. Simon's assistant was giving them a blank stare. "Do you know where he might be?" Dr. Gomez asked. "It's very important that we speak with him as soon as possible. He and I are old friends." The assistant shook her head. "I'm not sure where he is, but I'll let him know you stopped by the next time I see him."

Dr. Gomez thought it fishy that Dr. Simon's assistant didn't know where he was. Surely she did and just was not saying. But there wasn't much more he could do than thank her and leave his number. "Hey, Michael! Mr. Nemesis says hi!" Justin said as he held the Gomez family cat up to the phone camera. "Meooowww," Mr. Nemesis said, grumpily, which in cat means, "Put me down or you'll be sorry." Justin and Sadie had come over to the Gomezes' house again after school, something they had been doing most days since Michael had left. From his hotel room in Jerusalem, Michael filled his friends in on the tip they'd received from Ham, the talking donkey in Nazareth; their near miss with the squirrels in Jericho; and their suspicions about Dr. Simon. "How long are you going to look for Merle and Pearl?" Mrs. Gomez asked as she set a plate of cookies down on the kitchen table. "As long as it takes!" Michael answered back quickly. "Hey... maybe if we can't find the squirrels by Christmas break, Justin and Sadie can join us here?" "Sweet!" Justin said. "Count me in!" Sadie added. "Christmas break?!" Mrs. Gomez protested. "That's months away! I certainly hope you'll be home before then! What if it's just not possible to find them?"
"Nothing's impossible for God," Michael said. "I've been praying that he will make finding Merle and Pearl possible." "That's true," Mrs. Gomez said with a warm smile. "God doesn't always answer our prayers the way we want him to, but I'll be praying for the same thing."
