23 Whale Escape

Whale Escape written by Pam Holden illustrated by Lamia Aziz

One fine day, while he was outside testing the model plane that he had just made all by himself, Professor Bruce heard people shouting. "Help! Help! Come quick! There are whales stuck on the beach!" The people sounded very upset. Professor Bruce quickly flew his model plane down to land safely, then he picked it up and set off to help.

As he hurried over the hill to the beach, Professor Bruce found a large group of upset people, all wondering what to do. He could see a family of whales stuck on the land. The whale family had gone too close to the beach and had become stuck in the sand. "Help! We must save the whales!" cried the people.

While the upset people started working hard to push the whales back into the deeper water, Professor Bruce started thinking. He wanted to help, but what could he do? Every time the whale family seemed to be safely into the deep water, the whale family would swim the wrong way back to the beach and get stuck on the sand again. The people were trying their best, but they needed to have a different plan.

While Professor Bruce was wondering what to do, he was thinking and walking along the beach. He was looking around for anything that might help him. Suddenly, he noticed something that gave him a wonderful idea! "Aha!" said Professor Bruce, "I know what is needed." Professor Bruce had seen a young boy playing on the beach with a special toy boat - it was shaped just like a whale.

Professor Bruce quickly told the boy about his wonderful idea and asked him if he would help to save the whales, by letting Professor Bruce use his special whale-shaped boat. The boy and his family happily agreed. Professor Bruce sat down and carefully took the motor out of his model plane. Then he carefully put the motor from his model plane into the whale-shaped boat. He had made a model boat.
