uniform Soccer is a team sport with eleven players. Soccer, which is called football in many countries, can be played indoors and outdoors. The players need to be very fit because they run a lot. They wear a uniform and some safety equipment. They have special shoes that help them grip the ground. Shin guards protect their legs if they get kicked by another player. Their shirts show everyone which team they play for.

skills In soccer, the players have to get the ball down the field and try to score a goal without using their hands. To win, a team has to score more goals than the other team. The game starts with a kick-off. Many players dribble the ball. They use short kicks and keep the ball close to their feet so they can control it.

trapping If players want to pass the ball to a team-mate, they kick it hard. Good players can kick with the left or right foot. If players want to stop the ball from getting past, they have to trap it. Players can trap the ball with their feet, chest, or the top of their leg.

header Players can't use their hands in soccer, but they can use their head. Heading the ball is when they use their forehead to push the ball down the field or into the goal. They must always try to keep their eyes on the ball when they do a header.

tackling Tackling is when players take the ball away from a player on the other team. They can tackle from the front or the side. Good players can slide tackle. When players tackle, they must not push, trip or kick the other player. That would be a foul.
