19 Cycling for Fun

tunnel People cycle on footpaths and on roads. They cycle over hills and up and down mountains. They cycle around tracks and they even cycle through tunnels. Cycling is a good way for people to get around. They can cycle fast, or they can cycle slow. Cycling helps them feel good and it keeps them fit.

City People who cycle in busy places always make sure their brakes work well. They look out for cars, trucks, buses, other bikes and people who may not have seen them. The bikes have lights, a bell, and tread that doesn't slip when wet. These cyclists wear bright clothes and a helmet. They're going shopping or to work or are just out cycling with family or friends.

mountain biking People who cycle in the hills and mountains have to be very fit. They ride on dirt tracks that go up and down and around. The tracks also have stones, rocks, mud and sand on them. They can be very bumpy. These cyclists wear gloves and they always wear a helmet. They might cycle standing up to get more speed. The cyclists' bikes have big wheels with fat tread.

race track People who cycle on BMX parks like to race each other. They race on dirt tracks that have high corners and big humps. They go so fast over the humps that their bikes jump into the air! These cyclists must wear helmets. Many of them wear gloves and pads on their arms and legs too. Their bikes are very strong and have small wheels.

racing on tracks There are other cyclists who like to race each other too. Some of them race on wooden tracks inside big buildings. The cyclists, bikes go very, very fast but they don't have any brakes. The cyclists use their legs to slow down. The races are short. The bikes are very light and many of them have wheels with no spokes!
